Gestalt Counselling and Psychotherapy

Gestalt is an approach to counselling & psychotherapy which many people find helpful for a wide range of problems. I offer an honest and supportive relationship. One in which clients feel genuinely understood and accepted - not just for their present experience but for their potential.

I take a holistic approach in which all aspects of your experience are considered. Sometimes we can focus so much on the symptoms of a problem, we overlook the background where some of its causes may lie. Some people find things that are unfinished in their past cause difficulties in the present.

Exploring your world, sensitively and respectfully, I help to increase awareness of current difficulties; look at significant patterns and connections in your life; and support the process of change to find new ways forward.

Gestalt* therapy is a creative and experimental approach. It could give you the chance to get in touch with your thoughts, feelings and beliefs about your life - and find new ways of expressing them. This will include talking but could also involve art, writing and movement.

What Conditions Can it Help?
Gestalt is a good, effective approach to many difficulties including:

  • Abuse - physical, mental and emotional
  • Anger Management
  • Anxiety and Panic
  • Bereavement and Loss
  • Eating Disorders
  • Bullying
  • Depression (including Post-Natal Depression)
  • Low Self-Confidence
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder/behaviour (OCD)
  • Phobias
  • Relationship Issues
  • Separation and Divorce
  • Sexuality
  • Spirituality
  • Stress
  • Trauma
  • Work Related Issues

    What Benefits Can be Expected?
Many people I work with feel the benefit from simply being fully heard and understood by someone with an impartial perspective. Real change, however, is unpredictable. Sometimes it seems as though the more we reach for something different, the more we stay stuck.

Real change happens when we get to properly know where we are now

When we do change an aspect of our lives, we often have to adjust in others - think of any significant change in your life and see how many (apparently unconnected) aspects also changed. So counselling and psychotherapy cannot guarantee specific changes but I facilitate the people I work with to increase awareness of their current situation, to find their own solutions and safely manage the process of change.
